Fish And Chips Pop Up Set For Permanent Opening In West Village
An English Fish and Chips restaurant is coming to the West Village this spring. Here's what to know.
WEST VILLAGE, NY — Picture this. You walk into a restaurant called the Dame, and order a proper serving of fish and chips with vinegar. However, you're not in England. You're in the West Village.
This can soon be a reality for West Villagers as Ed Szymanski and Patricia Howard are opening a permanent fish and chips shop in the neighborhood.
The opening comes on the heels of a successful pop-up restaurant the pair ran in the West Village this summer called Dame Summer Club.

The new restaurant will open at 87 MacDougal Street sometime in the spring.
"It will be like if someone applied that attention to detail with the sourcing and the cooking and the ingredients, but removed all the stuffiness, all the tablecloths, and put it in a packed, 20-seat downtown New York City restaurant," Szymanski told Eater NY.

The two owners donated nearly $20,000 in profits from the summer to social justice organizations across the city in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, according to the restaurant's website.
Over the winter, the pair has been operating as Dame Deli & Bottle Shop, and on their off days can be found at NYC restaurants such as Cafe Integral, Wu's Wonton King, Mala Project, Mama's Too, or Thai Diner.
