Get Free Coffee At Greenwich Village Staple Caffe Reggio As It Celebrates 90 Years

Grab a free cup of joe on MacDougal Street until 3 p.m. Tuesday.

WEST VILLAGE, N.Y. – Greenwich Village staple Caffe Reggio is marking 90 years in the community with free cups of coffee on Tuesday until 3 p.m.

The 119 MacDougal St. cafe has changed little since it opened in 1927, Gothamist said, pointing to its venerable espresso machine and a bench said to be from the onetime stronghold of the Medici in Florence.

You'll no longer find original owner Domenico Parisi behind the counter, but his spirit lives on.

"He is the proud owner of one of the biggest and most frightening urns in the city," a 1955 "New Yorker" article said of Parisi and his espresso machine. "It makes coffee-strained nerves flutter, hands tremble and eyes start from their sockets."
