Here's The 1 Greenwich Village School Closed Due To Coronavirus

P.S. 41 in Greenwich Village has been closed since Jan. 20 because of COVID-19 cases. Here's when it is expected to reopen.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — Coronavirus cases have temporarily closed down one school in Greenwich Village, according to the city.

A school closure happens when at least two COVID-19 cases are linked to a classroom within the building.

According to the Department of Education's guidelines, school buildings must automatically close pending an investigation when at least two COVID-19 cases linked to each other are confirmed in separate classrooms. The closure is extended when the infections occurred outside of school or a link between them cannot be determined.

On Thursday, Mayor Bill de Blasio said he plans to release reopening "guidelines" to middle school administrators in February.

Elementary K-5 students, pre-K, 3K, and special needs students are the only students currently going to classrooms. De Blasio and school officials previously said middle school students who opted into in-person learning likely will return this month.

Officials hope to avert another disruptive citywide school closure that shifts all students to fully remote, as happened in November.
