Iconic Pizzeria Set To Open In The West Village: Report
L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele opened in Italy in 1870. It was then featured in the film "Eat Pray Love," before opening a LA outpost in 2019.
WEST VILLAGE, NY — A historic pizzeria is set to open a location in the West Village during the winter of 2021. L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele, which originally opened in Italy in 1870, is coming to the neighborhood at 2 Bank Street, near Greenwich Avenue, according to Eater NY.
The centuries-old pizzeria is known by many as the quaint and charming destination featured in Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat Pray Love," which Julia Roberts also walks into in the movie version.
The restaurant will be spearheaded by Francesco Zimone, who led L'Antica's first U.S. location in Los Angeles — which opened in 2019.

"I'm like, 'Guys, I have to do New York,'" Zimone told Eater NY about investors urging him to focus on other California openings before traveling across the country. "It's New York. That's where you have to bring pizza."
L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele will move into the former home of tapas spot Macondo, which is a 5,700 square-foot space spread out over two levels, according to Eater NY.

The original Italian menu only features two pizzas, Marinara or Margherita, but the menu was expanded for the Los Angeles location — a move that is expected to be seen in the West Village outpost.
The menu of the Los Angeles pizza shop features avocado toast, pasta, burgers, cheese and meat boards, burrata, and a wider selection of pizzas.
