WEST VILLAGE, NY — The Beatrice Inn has served customers in the West Village since the 1920s, but the coronavirus pandemic has pushed the iconic joint to an uncertain future.

The building that serves as home to the Beatrice Inn has been placed on the market for rent, according to Timeout New York.

The restaurant's current lease is up at the end of January, and chef and owner Angie Mar is in negotiations with the real estate firm Spirit Investment Partners to get an extension on the space.

"Mar and her team are currently in good faith negotiations to renew their lease with their landlord and making concerted efforts to determine whether a proposed increase in rent in sustainable amidst a global pandemic," a restaurant spokesperson said in a statement to Eater.

The Beatrice Inn has a long history in the West Village, located at 285 West 12th Street.

It started as a speakeasy in the 1920s before becoming an Italian restaurant in the 1950s and a nightclub after that, according to Eater New York. Mar took over ownership of the eatery in 2016 and refocused the menu around all kinds of meat.

The restaurant is currently open for both indoor and outdoor dining, takeout, and delivery.
