GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter's cannabis brand MONOGRAM is taking part in a campaign that is putting up posters across New York City and in the Village to "draw attention to the hypocrisy of current regulations governing cannabis" throughout the United States.

The campaign is led by Carter and The Parent Company, which is one of California's largest cannabis companies.

The messages on the poster are undoubtedly eye-catching.

"Weed is a federal crime even in the states where sex with farm animals isn't," says one of the posters.

A different poster reads, "You can marry your first cousin in more states you can buy recreational weed."

Here are the locations in the Village where the posters are located:

  • 14th Street and 7th Avenue (Greenwich Village)
  • 2nd Avenue and 3rd Street (East Village)
  • 2nd Street and 2nd Avenue (East Village)

One of the posters also reads, "The war on drugs worked, if systematic racism was the goal."

“Cannabis laws are out of date and disproportionately cruel and punishing when compared to the rest of the legal code. We still don’t have proper regulation for texting and driving in Missouri, but staying home and smoking weed will get you locked up,” Carter said in a news release. “I created this campaign to amplify the voices of those who have been penalized for the very same thing that venture capitalists are now prospering from with the emerging legal cannabis market."

The posters will remain up through the end of March.
