Last Day to Catch a 75th Anniversary Screening of 'Casablanca' in Hudson Square
The classic film is being shown at the Film Forum theater in Hudson Square.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — In honor of the 75th anniversary of Casablanca, the Film Forum theater at 209 West Houston St. in Hudson Square has been screening the classic film starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. If you haven't yet gone, you can catch its final screening today, Tuesday, Jan. 3.
The movie — which won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, when it came out in 1942 — takes place in a political climate that may have special resonance today.
"Casablanca was filmed in the safety of the Warner Bros. lot," Serena Donadoni writes at The Village Voice, "but the cast of immigrants and exiles who had fled the Third Reich conveyed their visceral fear. While the future was uncertain, the resolute characters of this exquisite wartime drama found peace through love and resistance.”
