GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — The Georgian restaurant Cafedelia is new to the Greenwich Village neighborhood, but it is already turning heads and receiving strong reviews from blogs and critics.

Recently, Grub Street, a food blog by New York Magazine with restaurant reviews and news, added Cafedelia to its list of "8th Street gems" after staff members Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfled said everything they ordered was good, and "what wasn't was great."

"The chicken-meatball soup was rich and herby. The spicy beef stew called chashushuli had everything you could ask for in a spicy beef stew, plus salad, pickles, and an un-Georgian helping of mash potatoes on the side," wrote the Grub Street authors. "All told, our Georgian feast left us tremendously full and wholly impressed."

Other menu options include Georgian-style hand-rolled dumplings, marinated over fried chicken, baked dough filled up with melted cheese, and honey cake with caramel cream.

The Georgian restaurant on 59 East 8th Street replaced the well-liked chickpea spot Sunshine Hummus at the storefront. The East 8th block has a well-documented history of hosting smaller popular restaurants that stick around for a couple of years before being replaced by another tasty joint.
