NYC School Closings: Spring Snowstorm Gives Kids A Snow Day

A new storm could dump 16 inches of snow on New York City.

MANHATTAN, NY — New York City public schools will be closed on Wednesday as the city braces itself for a snowstorm that could drop up to 16 inches of snow on the city.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday afternoon that all city public schools would be closed on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has already issued a winter storm warning for the city and surrounding areas starting at midnight on Tuesday until 8 a.m. Thursday.

Forecasters predict that the total accumulation could be between 12 and 16 inches, and that the heaviest snowfall will start on Wednesday at about 7 a.m. You can get the latest on the city's weather forecast here.

In addition to the school closures, all after-school programs, adult education, YABC programs and PSAL activities are also canceled, the city said.
