NYC Subway Groper Grabs Woman's Privates — Then Shoves Her Onto Train Tracks

When the victim of a random Manhattan subway groping told her attacker to leave her alone, he pushed her into the train bed, cops say.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — In a real-life reenaction of what has to be every NYC female's worst nightmare, a 22-year-old woman waiting for a train at the 14th Street and 6th Avenue station in the wee hours Friday morning was shoved into the train bed, police said, by the same awful stranger who had just groped her on the platform.

The groper approached the young woman from behind around 4:20 a.m., police said, as she was waiting for her train on a northbound platform in the station.

"The male touched the female's chest and groin area over her clothing," the NYPD said in a statement, "and when she told him to stop, he pushed her... causing her to fall onto the train tracks."

Thankfully, two other strangers in the station, both men, helped the woman climb back up onto the platform before any trains came through, police said.

When cops showed up, they said they found the woman shaken and suffering from a wrist injury. She was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Meanwhile, the man who allegedly groped and shoved her managed to escape. Police described him as a young black man in his 20s, standing somewhere between 5 feet, 10 inches and 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing an orange sweatshirt and dark jeans.

Although crime is down in most major categories this year across NYC, violent crime on the subway system has seen a sudden spike. In the first three months of 2017, there were 94 assaults on the subway — a 21 percent rise compared to the same time period last year. More subway crimes are committed on Fridays than any other day of the week, police data shows.

Two days before the Greenwich Village attack, another woman was assaulted on an A train as it headed through Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. In that attack, the victim was allegedly slashed across the face and robbed of her cellphone by a 300-pound man. Police have released the suspect's photo and are asking anyone who recognizes him to reach out: 1-800-577-TIPS.
