NYC's Worst-Dressed Lady Robber Threatens To Bomb Manhattan Bank, Police Say
The thief apparently fell victim to the Canal Street apparel booths en route to Chase Bank.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — The city's worst-dressed bank robber walked into the Chase branch on the corner of 6th Avenue and West 4th Street around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, handed the teller a note "that referenced a bomb" and demanded cash, according to local police.
"The teller complied and provided an undetermined sum of cash to the individual," police said in a call-out for public tips Thursday.
The thief was apparently a woman, an NYPD spokesperson said — although detectives can't tell for sure, as "the unidentified individual may have been wearing a disguise."

For the thief's sake, at least, let's hope that's what it was.
In surveillance footage of the suspect released Thursday by the NYPD, she (or he) appears fresh off an unhinged shopping spree along Canal Street's tourist-apparel row.

It's all there: The pink "NYC" baseball cap. The giant, orange knockoff purse. The see-through shawl with ample fringe. The dirt-cheap diva sunnies. The granny sneakers in a shade of periwinkle we didn't even know was possible.
In spite of this conspicuous getup, though, the suspect managed to escape with a bunch of cash and flee down 6th Avenue in broad daylight Thursday afternoon, police said.
