GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — The popular La Newyorkina dessert shop is closing down its Greenwich Village location in the near future.

The eatery that specializes in Mexican desserts located at 240 Sullivan Street is set to permanently closed on Jan. 10, after four years of service in Lower Manhattan.

The shop announced the news in a recent Instagram post, citing a drop off in foot traffic and the uncertainty that the winter will bring all restaurants and bakeries in New York City.

"It is with heavy heart that we have to let you know that just as many other small businesses, we will sadly have to close our beloved shop," La Newyorkina wrote on Instagram. "We are heartbroken but filled with gratitude and pride! We wanted to create a special place that celebrated the beautiful sweet culture of Mexico but we just cannot stay open any longer."

According to Eater NY, La Newyorkina's busiest season is in the summer, but the shop couldn't make enough this year during the warm months to sustain itself this winter.

Fany Gerson, who founded the dessert shop, will continue to sell her popular treats at Fan Fan Doughnuts — located on Franklin Avenue and Lafayette Avenue.
