Flatiron Gas Leak Forces Evacuation At 3 Buildings, FDNY Says
A gas leak spurred a full evacuation at two buildings and a partial evacuation of a third in the Flatiron District, FDNY said.

FLATIRON DISTRICT, NY — A gas leak forced people at three buildings in Flatiron to evacuate Wednesday morning, an FDNY spokesperson said.
Firefighters rushed to 226 Fifth Ave. just north of Madison Square Park about 10:20 a.m. Wednesday for a gas leak, the spokesperson said.
Emergency responders evacuated everyone out of 224 and 226 Fifth Ave. and partially evacuated 230 Fifth Ave., the spokesperson said.

ConEdison was on scene with FDNY personnel about 1:30 p.m. in the process of capping the leak, according to the department spokesperson.
No one was injured. Utilities were being dug up in the street to fix the problem, the spokesperson said.

A ConEdison spokesperson said the utility company is locating where the gas leak was coming from. Additional information about the leak was not immediately available.
A portion of the streets along Fifth Avenue between 26th and 28th streets remained closed to traffic during the work, according to the city's Emergency Management Department.
