Teen Chef Flynn McGarry Brings Pop-Up Restaurant to West Village's Kava
The celebrity chef, just 17 years old, will be cooking at the restaurant for just six months.
WEST VILLAGE, NY — In a collision of hot trends, teenage chef Flynn McGarry will be opening a pop-up restaurant in Kava Cafe in the West Village.
According to Eater, McGarry will open the kitchen on Oct. 1, expand to dinner-only on Oct. 18 and will be in residency there for six months. It's actually McGarry's second pop-up restaurant in New York — and second in the West Village — after opening Eureka at Creative Edge (110 Barrow St.) in August 2015. The 17-year-old, who began his cooking career in Los Angeles, ended his first run in January 2016.
Now he's back next month with a twice-a-day seating at the cafe — one at 6 p.m. and one at 9 p.m. Eater says the menu will include "sea urchin with carrots and coffee, poached oysters with fresh tofu and potato skins, and 'an aged beet.'"

He's already cooked at Eleven Madison Park, which was just named by Renzell as the best restaurant in the city on Sept. 13.
McGarry was named to Zagat's 30 under 30 list for Los Angeles in 2014 when he was just 15. He told Zagat back then that he opened to open a permanent restaurant "by the time he was 19." He's still got two more years.
