Thief Ties Up Worker And Robs $8K From Restaurant, Police Say

The thief acted as if he had a gun and stole $8,000, police said.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — A thief taped up a worker in the basement of a Greenwich Village restaurant and stole $8,000, police said.

A man entered through the side door of Knickerbocker Grill located at 33 University Place near New York University's campus about 1 a.m. Friday, according to police.

He went to the basement, where he walked up to a 62-year-old worker and acted as if he had a gun, police said.

He taped up the victim by his feet and wrists and stole $8,000, police said.

The restaurant's co-owner Ron D'Allegro told NBC 4 New York that the man "threw him and forced him on the floor and duct taped him."

The possible gunman was described as Hispanic and last seen wearing a black jacket, gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants, gray sneakers and a black backpack, according to police.
