Tree Sweaters Allowed To Stay On West Village Street, City Says

The city reversed a decision to remove the tree clothing.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — A cluster of West Village trees that have been dressed in crocheted sweaters since November can keep their adornments, the city ruled.

Officials previously said the sweaters had to be removed from about two dozen trees on Christopher Street after neighbors said they increased business and foot traffic, according to the New York Post.

Parks spokesman Sam Biederman said the department had a change of heart and the sweaters will not be removed by officials.

Local business owner Holly Boardman installed the sweaters last Thanksgiving in order to beautify the neighborhood street.
