Vegan Chain Based In West Village Files For Bankruptcy: Report
By Chloe, the vegan fast-food chain that originally opened in the West Village has filed for bankruptcy, according to Bloomberg.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — The popular vegan fast-casual chain, By Chloe recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to recent court filings first reported on by Bloomberg.
The specialty-vegan eatery chain is best known for its Kale Caesar Salads, Guac Burgers, Mac & Cheese, and an array of chocolatey desserts.
By Chloe opened its first restaurant in the West Village at 185 Bleecker Street in 2015, before expanding throughout the city, country, and world. The chain now operates 14 restaurants in the United States and multiple locations in Toronto and London. Before the coronavirus pandemic hit, it had plans to open two more locations in the United States.

The restaurant was started in 2015 by celebrity chef Chloe Coscarelli and Samantha Wasser in the lone West Village location.
Coscarelli rose to fame in 2010 after winning an episode of the Food Network's "Cupcake Wars," becoming the first all-vegan chef to win a competition on the food channel.

However, the chain's popularity didn't save it from the hardships of the coronavirus pandemic.
By Chloe has seen a revenue drop of 67 percent since February, according to Bloomberg. The West Village location, along with two others, remain closed, while the rest have reopened at reduced capacity.
For the time being, a group of investors has agreed to provide the vegan-eatery chain with a $3.25 million loan to keep the company running during bankruptcy, according to Bloomberg.
Bloomberg reports that the chain is then seeking to sell itself by mid-February.
