Washington Square Park's Christmas Tree Lighting Set For Monday

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — The most wonderful time of the year has arrived in Greenwich Village.

The 95th annual Christmas tree lighting at Washington Square Park is set for Monday, according to the Washington Square Association.

The 45-foot Vermont tree will be lit up in the annual tree lighting 6 p.m., Dec. 9 just south of the Washington Square Park arch at the end of Fifth Avenue.

The Rob Susman Brass Quartet will lead the holiday songs. Park-goers can join the association in carol singing during the festivities, with song books provided.

Santa Claus will make an appearance too, helping lead a countdown for the tree's lighting and handing out candy canes.

On Christmas Eve at 5 p.m., the public can again join the quartet for carol singing.

The association, founded in 1906, has led carol singing at the Arch for more than 90 years, according to organizers. This year is the tree lightings 95th year.
