West Village Via Carota Chefs Named James Beard Finalists

WEST VILLAGE, NY — Chefs Jody Williams and Rita Sodi of Via Carota in the West Village were named James Beard finalists for best chef in New York City Wednesday.

The chefs were among 20 semi-finalists in New York City narrowed down to five this week.

The Italian eatery, located at 51 Grove St., opened in 2014.

Williams and Sodi were named finalists alongside chefs of Atla, Momofuku Ko, Superiority Burger and Empellón Midtown.

The James Beard Foundation announced the finalists Wednesday, with several New York City establishments and chefs seeking the prestigious award — known as the Oscars of the culinary world.

The awards will be presented May 6 at the Lyric Opera in Chicago.
