West Village Chase Bank Targeted by Note-Passing Bank Robbers

An NYPD spokesperson said it is not clear how much money was demanded.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — Yet another unsuccessful note-passing bank robbery attempt has been reported by police in Manhattan, this time at a Chase Bank in the West Village.

The NYPD is searching for a man who they say walked into Chase Bank's branch at 204 West 4th St. near Seventh Ave. on Wednesday afternoon and passed a note to a teller demanding money. The teller did not comply, according to police, and the man fled the scene without any cash. An NYPD spokesperson said it is not clear how much money was demanded.

No injuries were reported and the NYPD said there were no threats made during the robbery attempt.

The robbery attempt comes amid a recent string of similar note-passing robbery attempts around Manhattan. A different note-passing would-be robber was turned away on Thursday when he tried robbing Amalgamated Bank at 1745 Broadway, between 55th and 56th; and another man tried, unsuccessfully, to rob five banks on Monday. All of these cases have yielded different photos of different suspects.

The man in Wednesday's robbery attempt is identified as white and hispanic, five-feet, ten inches tall, and 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black ski cap, red jacket, dark-colored pants, and grey sneakers, according to police.
