"Wife-and-husband chef partners Angie Rito and Scott Tacinelli have created a modern Italian American menu with a true global flair," the Michelin Guide wrote about the West Village eatery. "Think sourdough pasta and fior di latte mochi for dessert. They handle bold flavors with creativity and finesse."

Rito grew up in and around her family's Italian bakery in Cleveland, cultivating an early passion for Italian cuisine and the restaurant business. Tacinelli, on the other hand, grew up in New Jersey in an Italian-American family and began professionally cooking after eight years working at CBS radio.

Favorites from Don Angie include stuffed garlic flatbread, spicy veal tartare, stracchino gnocchi, shell steak al limone, and much more.

"They always dreamed of opening a small, special place where they could really showcase their unique style of modern Italian American cuisine," reads an About section on Don Angie's website. "That vision has come to fruition in Don Angie."

And now that vision has a Michelin star.

Here are the six other New York City restaurants that received their first Michelin star on Thursday:

  • Tsukimi: East Village
  • Rezdôra: Flatiron
  • Jua: Flatiron
  • Vestry: SoHo/HudsonSquare
  • Kochi: Hell’s Kitchen
  • Francie: Williamsburg

The five New York City restaurants with three Michelin stars from the 2019 guide held onto their top rating — with no new restaurants joining the elite group. Those eateries are Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare, Eleven Park Madison, Le Bernardin, Masa, and Per Se.
