Work To Make 6th Ave Station Accessible Starts This Year: MTA

GREENWICH VILLAGE, MANHATTAN — Work to make all six subway lines that run from the 14th Street-Sixth Avenue station accessible will start this year, the MTA announced.

The 14th Street-Sixth Avenue complex was among 25 stations, four in Manhattan, that are on the docket for accessibility improvements in 2020, according to a schedule transit officials released Thursday.

The projects will make each station fully compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

For 14th Street-Sixth Avenue's station, that means that the 1, 2 and 3 line, F and M line and the L line will all become fully accessible. The improvements will stretch from the complex's Sixth Avenue and Seventh Avenue entrance.

Manhattan's 137th Street station, 181st Street station, Dyckman Street station and Harlem-148th Street station are also on the 2020 list of subway stops that will get upgraded this year.

The MTA also plans improvements at five stations in the Bronx, including one Metro-North station, six stations in Brooklyn, and seven stations in Queens, including two Long Island Rail Road stations, and three stations on Staten Island.

The projects are part of MTA's wider $54.8 billion 2020-2024 Capital Program. A full list of projects across the city can be read here.
