2nd Storm This Month Expected To Hit Town Of Islip Thursday

Town of Islip officials are asking residents to prepare for the expected extreme weather event to hit the area.

TOWN OF ISLIP, NY — Just weeks after Tropical Storm Isaias ravaged the area, the Town of Islip officials are warning residents to prepare for yet another extreme weather event expected to hit the area Thursday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Suffolk County is at an enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon into the evening as the remnants of Hurricane Laura makes its way north.

Severe thunderstorms are likely with damaging wind gusts of 60 mph or higher, along with large hail as the primary threats. An isolated tornado is also possible along with brief heavy rainfall.

Town officials are urging business owners to secure tents, outdoor dining tables and chairs. Homeowners should secure outdoor furniture, barbecues, umbrellas and any object that could become a projectile.
