In a “virtual reading buddies” exchange at West Islip’s Paul J. Bellew Elementary School, teacher Mary Stewart’s third graders read to Lisa Chianese’s virtual kindergarten class. The older students selected high-interest books that the kindergartners would enjoy.

“They did an amazing job reading to their little buddies,” Principal Rhonda Pratt said. “The kindergarten students were so happy to meet and spend time with their new third-grade friends and even wrote them thank you cards.”
