Drunken Man Crashes Car On Robert Moses Causeway: Sheriff
The 43-year-old got stuck behind the wheel of the car and had to be extracted by the West Islip Fire Department, according to the sheriff.
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY - An East Northport man was charged with drunken driving after crashing his car off the Robert Moses Causeway last week, according to the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department.
On December 13 at 1:08 a.m., Daniel Lugo, 43, was driving southbound on the causeway when he crashed his car into the wooded shoulder near exit RM2W, the sheriff's department said. As a result of the crash, was stuck behind the wheel of the car and had to be extracted by the West Islip Fire Department. Members of the fire department then had to help him on to the stretcher, the sheriff's department said. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip.
While interviewing Lugo, officers say his speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy and he had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was on his breath, according to the sheriff's department. He also did the standardized field sobriety test and "demonstrated clues" indicating he was intoxicated, the sheriff's department said.

Lugo was arrested and charged with DWI.
