Freeze Watch Issued for Suffolk County

Enjoy the rest of a sunny 60-degree Friday because the temperature is set to fall off a cliff this weekend.

In fact, the National Weather Service has issued a freeze watch for Suffolk County.

“Sensitive vegetation may be damaged or killed due to the below freezing temperatures,” the NWS said in the watch, which will be in effect from 2-10 a.m. Sunday.

The first freeze of the season may be coming earlier than usual. The average date for the first freeze on eastern Long Island is November 1, the NWS said.

The full forecast:

• Friday Afternoon- Mostly sunny, with a steady temperature around 62. West wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
• Friday night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 46. West wind 5 to 7 mph.
• Saturday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 56. Northwest wind 8 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
• Saturday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 36. Northwest wind around 17 mph.
• Sunday- Sunny, with a high near 49. Northwest wind around 15 mph.
• Sunday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 34.
