Gala to Support Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Research
Event to honor Fred Penny, Bimbo Bakeries USA; Susan Cappelluzzo, and Maria Figalora

Elizabeth T. McNamee was an accomplished, brilliant, beautiful, caring and very determined individual who never gave up on whatever she felt was important. She was a 1995 Magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University and a member of the Law Review at New York University’s Law School. Tragically, Elizabeth’s dream of a promising career as an attorney ended suddenly in September 1998, when, HCM, claimed her life.
Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a silent heart defect affecting teens and young adults, many of which are athletes and is one of the leading causes of death among America’s youth. HCM is a preventable disease if detected early.
For the past 20 years, the Elizabeth T. McNamee Fund, has been producing an annual 5K race every Mother’s Day in West Islip to raise funds and awareness for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. When the 20th and final race concluded in 2018, the Foundation hit the pavement to put together a fundraising event in order to continue the 501(c)3 organization’s awareness for the sudden death syndrome.
