Much of Thursday turned out dry for much of Long Island as a coastal storm stayed mostly out to sea. Major flooding concerns, however, remain for parts of the South Shore.

A coastal flood warning in effect until noon for southern Nassau County and southwestern Suffolk County.

"There is a significant threat to life and property," the flood warning says. "Severe flooding will cause extensive inundation and flooding of numerous roads and buildings."
