West Islip Ambassador Girl Scout Receives Gold Award

Carly McCaffrey had three monuments erected at West Islip Beach for those who perished on 9/11.

Legislator Steven J. Flotteron joined Ambassador Girl Scout Carly McCaffrey with her parents, Owen and Lisa Marie, at the site of her Gold Award Project. Carly had three monuments erected at West Islip Beach. One has a piece of steel from ground zero, another is for the First Responders that perished that day, and those that were injured or battling illnesses from their exposure from the site of the attacks.

She dedicated the third one to her dad, a retired NYPD Emergency Service Lieutenant who was injured at the site during recovery efforts.

“It’s all for him,” said Ms. McCaffrey. “He gave so much to be there for others.”

She is with Troop 1104, Service Unit #17, earning her Girl Scout Gold Award in her senior year at West Islip High School. She plans to pursue a career teaching kindergarten.
