West Islip Beach Closed To Bathing
The local beach, along with another beach within the town of Islip, were closed Thursday due to the finding of excess bacteria.
TOWN OF ISLIP, NY - Two town of Islip beaches are closed to bathing due to the fining of excess bacteria, Suffolk Health officials announced Thursday.
The two closed beaches are West Islip Beach and Benjamins Beach in Bay Shore.
Tanner Park Beach in Copiague remains closed.

Beaches will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels.
According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. James Tomarken, bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
