West Islip-born artist James Falciano to Exhibit in NYC

NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea's Agora Gallery will feature the original work of West Islip-born artist James Falciano in The Manifestation of Milie

Drawing on the energy of his home, New York City, James Falciano fills his oil-painted scenes with expertly-rendered light. Much of his time is spent exploring the city on foot, which has had a tremendous influence on his work. These walks mirror his childhood searches for the overlooked: for those lone flowers living among a world of weeds. Today, Falciano searches for details hidden in plain sight, bringing them to the forefront of his work and cascading them with light and color. Each painting is an attempt to locate the “mysterious luminescence that transforms the mundane into the magical.”

Falciano treasures such moments of solitude and reflection: to be walking down a deserted street, lost in thought or captivated by the buildings and parks he passes, is blissful to him. These moments, imbued with a special form of energy, are those that drive Falciano to paint. “There’s an intimacy experienced through quiet streets flooded with light,” he says. “These quiet moments I’ve spent around the city are meaningful, and I feel compelled to share them with others.”

About the Exhibition

The World Behind the Figure: The Manifestation of Milieu

So often, art exhibitions focus on the form of the individual, either abstractly or figuratively. In the exhibition The Manifestation of Milieu, sixteen artists look beyond the individual and at the world around. Exploring context, both environmental and temporal, these artists question the form in how it may interact with its surroundings. Whether in harmonious landscapes or tumultuous abstracts, in elemental colors or stark simplicity, these artists manipulate their media in order to investigate the importance of environment, the concept of contexts, the manifestation of milieu.
