West Islip Locals: Rolling Stone Crossed the Line
Several stores are refusing to carry the latest issue featuring bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

The cover of the latest Rolling Stone features Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. It's not a grainy image from a surveillance camera or a mug shot but it shows a hip-looking young man, his mussy hair and goatee making him seem more like one of the rock stars the music magazine frequently covers rather than possibly the most hated man in the United States right now. A suspected terrorist. The cover photo supports the investigative piece inside outlining what made the boy turn into a killer.
But since the cover was announced to the public there has been a backlash. Several stores, including Stop & Shop, CVS and Walgreen's, have refused to carry the latest issue of Rolling Stone Magazine because of its decision to put Tsarnaev on the cover.
We posed the question on our Facebook page and asked readers if they agreed with the retailers' decision. Here is what a few of your neighbors are saying:

Toni Ann F: I absolutely agree with this. Very poor choice to glorify an American terrorist by putting his picture on the cover of Rolling Stone. Why are they making somewhat of a celebrity of a homocide bomber?
Frank DeMonte: I agree with it 100%. I think rolling stone is out of their minds for using him on the cover. It's not even like its a picture of him in handcuffs or anything, it looks like a GQ photo shoot. The man is a terrorist responsible for the deaths of five and the wounding/maiming of 280 others. That's like putting up a picture of Osama Bin Laden posing poolside for the cover photo. It's tacky, tasteless, and just plain wrong.

Deanna C. Nix: It's giving them what they want... To be noticed and remembered... It was a horrible event.. The victims should have been on the cover.
Linda Grunenberg: I don't understand the problem. I didn't read the story but the headline is that he's a bomber. He is well known and I don't see anything wrong with telling the story of who he is or was.
Jeana Schauer Inzirillo: Good for them. The mayor of Boston said it best!!!!
Beverly Peek Heldman: Who cares who he is!!! The next sicko will be so excited that he will make news everywhere, 24/7 and the cover of Rolling Stone!! And them some. His name should never be spoke again !!
Luanne Carbonetti-Horne: Sometimes attention is why people do crazy things. Why reward people with more attention. It sets a precedent!!!
Kareen Roman Gaffney: Absolutely agree. These stores see the disrespect being dished out to, not only those murdered and maimed by this animal but their families and quite frankly the whole country. If you don't understand put yourself in their shoes.
Kenny O'keefe: yes I agree
Marcy Reynolds Chapuisat: Totally agree
Kim Lappi: What happened to innocent until proven guilty? The man has not been convicted--- yet.
Kathy Mundy: Kim are you serious ?
Elaine Carter Kaleta: There is no need to glamorize him as s feature cover . Many others that should be on a cover don't get on one. While I'm all for reporting on a news event his photo isn't needed for the sale of magazine copies. We know who he is by name, drop the feature attention that only sensationalized his actions.
Brian Clark: @Kim Lappi Very true, innocent until proven guilty but maybe you should pull your head out of the sand don't be so naive.
Brian Clark: Rolling Stone has always liked to push the envelope. Print media specially magazine production is on the verge of extinction so negative attention is better than no attention at all.
Nadine Cain-Laznovsky: Don't post it here either
Lisa Saccoccia DeMasi: Yes I agree 100%
John Cuddihy: I agree, and thanks to our local retail shops for doing so..I don't think Rolling Stone has much of a circulation any way..and even less now.
John Cuddihy: Memo to the Editor...Your FIRED...lol
Sandra Ferrara: He has gotten more than his fifteen minutes of fame and that was too much
