West Islip Man Seriously Injured After Being Struck By Car

The 60-year-old was hit while crossing the street in East Islip on Monday night.

EAST ISLIP, NY - A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a car in East Islip on Monday night, according to Suffolk Police.

John Dempsey, 60, of West Islip was crossing Carleton Avenue eastbound, just south of Jefferson Street, when he was hit by a southbound 2002 Toyota Corolla at 9:17 p.m.

He was then transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, 51-year-old Joseph Ladonna, of East Islip, was not injured. The car was impounded for a safety check.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
