West Islip Postpones Return To Classrooms Due To COVID-19 Cases
While the school district planned for some students to return to school full-time Monday, newly reported COVID-19 cases forced a delay.
WEST ISLIP, NY — One year after schools closed down due to the coronavirus cases, some are starting to plan a return to full-time in-person learning. However, the West Islip School District had to postpone a return to classrooms for some students due to newly reported cases.
The district planned to have some high school students return starting on Monday, however in a letter to the community, Superintendent Bernadette Burns announced that decision will be delayed after six new positive COVID-19 cases were reported. Currently, 135 students are in quarantine.
As a result, the 9th, 10th and 11th grade students will continue with hybrid learning while the 12th grade students will continue with full-time in-person schooling.
