West Islip Student-Athlete Named Suffolk Player of the Year

WEST ISLIP, NY — A West Islip High School soccer player was named the Class AA Suffolk County Player of the Year.

Senior Lauryn Schmidt earned the honor after leading her team to a Suffolk County title in 2019 and deep into the playoffs this past season.

Schmidt also earned All-County, All-State, Academic All-League, League IV Player of the Year and Newsday First Team All-Long Island recognition.

She plans to continue her soccer career this fall at Marist College.

"To be recognized as the best player in Suffolk County, among so many talented athletes, is an incredible honor," Athletic Director Tim Horan said. "It’s a credit to Lauryn’s commitment to excellence and all those who have supported her over the years."
