West Islip Twins Are Suffolk County Tennis Stars

Marty and Rich Racanelli both reached the county singles finals.

West Islip High School sophomores and twin brothers Marty and Rich Racanelli were the Suffolk County Division II boys singles tennis finalists, coming out on top of 30 of the best players in Suffolk’s Leagues III and IV.

“Having an athlete make it to the divisional finals is an incredible accomplishment, but to have siblings earn both finalist spots is a testament to their exceptional athletic ability and their work ethic,” said West Islip Athletic Director Tim Horan. “We salute the Racanelli boys and coach George Botsch on their success.”

The brothers played each other for the county singles championship on May 10. In the title match, held at East Islip Middle School, top-seeded Marty Racanelli edged third seed Richie, 7-5, 6-2.
