Winter Storm Update: Residents Advised To Remove Cars From Road

Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter is advising local residents to move their cars in lieu of the winter storm in the area.

"I am urging residents to remove their cars from the roads. Our plows are in full operation. Snow is expected to continue until 9 pm, possiblymidnight, accompanied by high winds. Thank you and be safe."

TOWN OF ISLIP, NY - With the storm in full swing in the Town of Islip, rain, sleet and snow will continue to fall through Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.

Snow accumulations are expected to reach as much as 1 to 3 inches over the course of the day, with an additional 1 to 2 inches expected overnight.

Town officials that the Department of Public Works/Parks divisions are in "snow mode."

Snow equipment is ready, and en route to local schools and fire departments. Streets will be coated with salt whenever and wherever necessary.

Residents are advised to exercise safety and caution when driving.

In response to flooding, Department of Public Works/Parks crews have pumped at-risk areas.

Further high tides, coupled with today’s Nor’ Easter, are expected to cause additional flooding. These areas will also be pumped.

Strong winds continue to remain in our area, with afternoon gusts expected at 39 mph.

Due to the weather conditions, the following flights at Islip MacArthur Airport have been cancelled:

American Airlines

  • All flights cancelled until 2:20 pm on Thursday.

Frontier Airlines

  • With the exception of today’s last two inbound flights, Frontier has cancelled all flights after 1:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The Department of Parks and Recreation has announced that all after school programs will remain open on Wednesday.

Evening programs to be held at Senior Centers, Recreation Centers, and the Town Hall West 401 gym have been cancelled.
