2-Car Crash In Mahopac Claims 2 Lives
One of the people killed was an officer with the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.
MAHOPAC, NY — Two people, one of whom was an officer in the Putnam County Sheriff's Department, were killed Sunday in a two-car crash on Route 6N in Mahopac.
Yorktown police said a 50-year-old man from Mahopac, who was the driver of one of the cars, was declared dead at the scene.
Sheriff Robert L. Langley said the man was Officer Michael J. Moore.

The second car's driver, a 56-year-old woman from Mahopac, was taken to Westchester Medical Center where she died of her injuries.
Police said the woman's name being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Moore began his law enforcement with the New York City Department of Probation in 1997 as a probation officer. A year later he became a police officer with the NYPD.
He became a patrolman for the Hastings-on-Hudson Police Department in 2003 where he stayed until his retirement in 2019.
Moore joined the Putnam County Sheriff's Department in 2019, where he was assigned to the Special Patrol Division.
He is survived by his wife Janene and three children.
An investigation into the crash is being conducted by the Town of Yorktown Police Department Accident Investigation Unit with the assistance of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety Accident Investigation Unit.
Yorktown police said that anyone with information regarding the crash should call Detective Swart or Sergeant Dillon at 914-962-4141.
Responding to accident, in addition to Yorktown police, were Empress EMS, Lake Mohegan Fire Department, Lake Mohegan Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Mahopac Falls Fire Department and Mahopac Falls Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
