State police said it is believed the driver swerved to avoid an object in the roadway, struck the guide rail, and the vehicle jumped the rail before coming to rest in the wooded area adjacent to the water. The vehicle struck a tree and came to rest near the water.

Officials said fire units remained at the scene with a Department of Environmental Protection hazmat team to mitigate a spill into the reservoir.
