Animal Cruelty Victim To Lead SPCA Dog Walk, Pet Fair

Charlie Brown was rescued after being found with two neglected broken legs, one of which had to be amputated.

YORKTOWN, NY — The public is welcome to join thousands of animal lovers and their furry friends who will come out to support the SPCA of Westchester’s Annual Dog Walk and Pet Fair. The event will take place on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 5 at FDR State Park in Yorktown Heights. This is the SPCA’s largest attended event with a goal of raising $120,000. Funds raised help the SPCA to rescue and rehabilitate thousands of orphaned animals every year.

Scott McGee, anchor and managing news editor for News12, will perform the ribbon cutting.

This year’s SPCA Dog Walk Mascot — Charlie Brown — is known to animal lovers who supported his recovery after being rescued by the SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement Unit. The 4-pound toy poodle, suffered from two broken legs that were neglected for months, resulting in one having to be amputated shortly after he was rushed to the SPCA’s Simpson Veterinary Clinic. His owner has since been arrested for animal cruelty.

Organizers said that Charlie Brown’s story pulled on the heartstrings of everyone who learned of his horrific ordeal, and they cheered him on while he learned to walk on three legs. He is a true example of how resilient an animal can be and that is why the SPCA chose him as this year’s Dog Walk Mascot.

The SPCA’s Dog Walk and Pet Fair has something for everyone. After enjoying a scenic walk around the park, there will be activities for the dogs and kids, music, food and refreshments.
