Christmas 2019: What's Open/Closed In Hudson Valley
Many services are not available on Christmas Day.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — What's open on Christmas Day? Many stores and services are not available, so be sure to factor that into your holiday plans. Here's this year's rundown:
- Government offices are closed on this holiday and there will be no mail delivery from the U.S. Post Office.
- There is also no UPS or FedEx pickup or delivery, with limited service on Christmas Eve.
- Public libraries and schools are closed.
- Metro North runs extra trains prior to the holiday, so people can get home to their families. And there are changes throughout the weekend. Here's the list.
- If you need to buy another essential ingredient for your holiday dinner, don't panic. Although Aldi, Trader Joe's, Costco, Whole Foods, Hannaford, Key Food, Target and Walmart stores will be closed on Christmas Day, you can still pick up a few staples at 7-Eleven stores. Most Acme supermarkets will be open Christmas Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Many Rite Aid and CVS pharmacies will also be open.
- You will probably want to get your shopping done before Christmas Day. The Westchester mall in White Plains will be closed on Christmas Day, as will the Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown Heights, with stores closing early on Christmas Eve. Poughkeepsie Galleria stores and restaurants will be closed on Christmas Day and closing at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. The Palisades Mall is also closed on Christmas Day. Give your favorite stores a call to see when they close on Christmas Eve, because they will likely be closing early.
- If you're planning on eating out on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, opentable.com has a list of restaurants that will be open.
- Planning on going to a movie. Most chain movie houses will be open for business Christmas. Check with your favorite independent theater before you make plans, though.
Happy holidays.
