Elementary School Custodian Saves Choking Student

MOHEGAN LAKE, NY — Quick work by a custodian at George Washington Elementary School helped save a student who was choking.

According to a Lakeland Central School District Facebook post, Angelo Alessandro, a custodian at the school, noticed April 20 that a third-grade student was in distress during lunch.

He saw that the child was choking and could tell his lower lip was turning blue.

Alessandro managed to pull food out of the student's mouth and performed the Heimlich maneuver which dislodged more food, allowing the student to breathe normally.
