Erminia Pilato celebrated her 103rd birthday on Jan. 16 at Fieldhome Holy Comforter, located on the border of Yorktown and Cortlandt. Her birthday party was complete with pizza, cake, family and friends.Â
Pilato, who was born on Jan. 16, 1911 in Harlem, worked as a seamstress for years and was recognized nationally for her work.Â
"She was one of the best in New York City," her great-niece Donna Albanese said. "She is funny and compassionate."
Albanese, who attended Pilato's birthday party with her daughters Jennifer and Christina, said her great-aunt sings every day, plays bingo and wins most of the time. She has also crocheted a "tremendous amount" of scarves and blankets throughout her time at Fieldhome.
"Her secret to a good life, she said, is that she wakes up happy, puts on her makeup, dresses for the day, sings and enjoys her life,"Â Albanese said.Â
