Hazardous Weather Possible In Parts Of Hudson Valley Thursday

Meteorologists said the storms are likely to not be severe, but there could be flash flooding in some areas.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — With heat advisories behind us in the Hudson Valley, showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast Thursday ahead of a slow-moving cold front.

The National Weather Service has issued hazardous weather outlooks for much of the area.

For Columbia, Ulster and Dutchess counties, there is a chance for non-severe thunderstorms Thursday afternoon into early evening. Locally heavy rainfall is likely to occur with any thunderstorms.

For Rockland and Westchester counties, there is the potential for localized to scattered areas of flash flooding Thursday afternoon into the event ahead of the cold front.

Leading up to the long 4th of July weekend, the region can expect showers through Saturday, with the bad weather clearing out for most of Sunday, with sunny weather returning for Monday.

Here is the forecast from the National Weather Service for northern Westchester through the long weekend:

  • Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Steady temperature around 76. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Thursday Night: Showers. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 66. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
  • Friday: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 11am. Cloudy, with a high near 77. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Friday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59. North wind 3 to 6 mph.
  • Saturday: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. North wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Saturday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then a chance of showers between 8pm and 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
  • Independence Day: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 75.
  • Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm. Mostly clear, with a low around 59.
  • Monday: Sunny, with a high near 84.
  • Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 66.
