Head-on Collision in Yorktown Kills Tarrytown Woman, Injures Yorktown Driver

The early-morning accident left a second driver with leg injuries; police are continuing their investigation.

A head-on collision on the Taconic Parkway in Yorktown early Saturday morning left a 34-year-old Tarrytown woman dead and injured a 26-year-old Yorktown woman, state police told Patch.

Michelle Cio—a wrong-way driver behind the wheel of a 2006 Honda Civic—was traveling south in the northbound lanes at about 12:20 a.m. when her car slammed into another driver in a 2007 Audi.

Cio was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said, and the driver of the Audi—26-year-old Alicia Asadoorian, of Yorktown—was transported to Westchester Medical Center with leg injuries.

Police said Asadoorian had 5.3 grams of marijuana in her possession; authorities are awaiting toxicology reports. Additional charges are dependent upon those results.

Police and local fire officials said they are unsure of where the wrong-way driver entered the Parkway.

There were no passengers in either vehicle, Yorktown Heights Fire Chief Chet Swirski told Patch.

"It was an unfortunate incident," Swirski said.

A head-on collision on the Tappan Zee Bridge left one motorist dead on July 23.
