Heat Advisories In Effect For Hudson Valley Tuesday

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The Hudson Valley is in store for another hot, humid day Tuesday. The National Weather Service has heat advisories in place for the region.

An advisory is still in place for southern Westchester County until 8 p.m. Tuesday. The heat index values could reach 102 degrees.

For Orange, Putnam, Rockland and northern Westchester, the advisory is still in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday also. However the heat index values are expected up to 99 degrees.

For Dutchess and eastern Ulster counties, the heat advisory goes into effect at noon and lasts until 8 p.m. Tuesday. The weather service said the heat index values could be between 95 and 99 degrees.

Health experts caution people to drink plenty of fluids and stay in air-conditioned rooms and out of the sun. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles.

Extra precautions should be taken if you work or spend time outside. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

Here are the forecasts for Tuesday from the National Weather Service:

Mid-Hudson Valley

• Tuesday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Partly sunny and hot, with a high near 90. Heat index values as high as 97. West wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. Calm wind.

Northern Westchester

• Tuesday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 96. West wind around 7 mph.
• Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Calm wind.

Southern Westchester

• Tuesday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Partly sunny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 98. West wind 8 to 10 mph.
• Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. West wind 3 to 6 mph.

Rockland County

• Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Partly sunny, with a steady temperature around 88. West wind around 7 mph.
• Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 9pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Light northwest wind.
