Heat Advisory In Effect For Parts Of Hudson Valley

It is going to be warm throughout the valley, but dangerously so in the mid-Hudson Valley.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — It's going to feel hot in the Hudson Valley Monday, but more so in some areas, according to meteorologists.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for western Columbia, eastern Ulster and western Dutchess counties in effect from noon to 6 p.m. Monday.

Forecasters said the heat index values could be in the mid- and upper-90s.

The weather service said hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

Health experts recommend drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room and out of the sun and checking up on relatives and neighbors.

The remainder of the Hudson Valley — Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties — are under a hazardous weather outlook.

The weather service said there is a low probability for widespread hazardous weather late Monday and early Monday evening. Stronger thunderstorms may be capable of producing isolated instances of damaging wind gusts.

Here is the forecast for northern Westchester for the workweek:

  • Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 88. South wind 7 to 11 mph.
  • Monday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable after midnight.
  • Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11am and 5pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 51. Northwest wind around 6 mph.
  • Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 75. North wind 6 to 8 mph.
  • Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 54.
  • Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 79.
  • Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 55.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 79.
  • Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63.
