The school superintendent also explains how decisions are made about switching from hybrid learning to remote.

SHRUB OAK, NY — Lakeland High School will be turning to all remote learning beginning Monday.
Superintendent Brendan Lyons said in a Facebook post that the remote learning will continue through Dec. 4.
He said the district was notified of two additional coronavirus contact cases. Three others were reported as well, but had been quarantining and were not in contact with other students or staff.

"We were informed that a COVID positive student case had been identified at Lakeland High School who was in contact with staff and students," Lyons said. "Contact tracing was completed and students and staff exited the building as soon as they were identified as contacts."
He said that, based on the total number of cases, as well as the frequency of new positives, the regional case rates and the overlapping quarantining of staff and students alike, the district's physician recommended the high school turn to remote learning.

In addition to the Lakeland High School contact, a Benjamin Franklin Elementary School student was reported as having tested positive to the virus. Again, contact tracing was completed and students and staff left the building as soon as they were ID'd as contacts.
The class which included the infected student will be on remote instruction Monday and Tuesday and will return Nov. 30.
All other staff and students will return for hybrid instruction Monday.
In the post, Lyons explained the rationale behind determining whether a school should go remote or stay in a hybrid model. Read the entire post here.
