Obituary: Umberto Santaroni, 75, Of Somers

SOMERS, NY — Umberto Santaroni died peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 14, 2020, at the age of 75. Born in Frosinone, Italy, to Giacomo and Piacentina Santaroni, Umberto emigrated to Somers, NY, in 1952, at the age of 7-1/2, and attended Somers High School. In 1968, Umberto met the love of his life, Carol, to whom he was married for 51 years.

Umberto is survived by his wife Carol, his three daughters and their families: Karen DiNuzzi (Luigi), and their children, Briana, Fiona and Nicholas; Diane Graber (Brian) and their children Carolyn, Kevin and Lily; Denise Williams (Richard) and their children, Alice and Jake. Umberto is also survived by his sisters Julia Boniello, Loretta Festo, Maria Styfco, one brother Domenick Santaroni, and many nieces and nephews. Umberto’s family and grandchildren were the lights of his life.

Since emigrating from Italy, Umberto resided in Somers for the remainder of his life and was the owner of a construction company in northern Westchester since 1967. Umberto valued his community, serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals and was a founding member of the Somers Italian American Club. An enthusiast of cars, Umberto owned several Corvettes throughout his life. Also an avid athlete, Umberto enjoyed baseball, racquetball and football. Above all else, Umberto’s true passion was his family, to which he dedicated much of his time and energy.

Visiting will be at Clark Funeral Home in Yorktown Heights on Thursday, June 18, 2020, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020, 10 a.m. at New St. Patrick’s Church in Yorktown Heights. Masks are required in the Funeral Home and Church. Interment will be Private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, themmrf.org.
