Save the Post Office Saturday

People Around America Speak Up for Their Right to Vote

Today, Saturday, August 22 has been designated a National Day of Action in support of the United States Postal Service (USPS). The USPS is currently under attack by President Trump and his donor appointee. President Trump and Senate Republicans have been blocking legislation from Congress which would include pandemic and economic funding, along with funding for the USPS. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy removed vital equipment and personnel, just prior to a national election, in a clearly stated attempt to sabotage voting-by-mail.

But this attempt at voter disenfranchisement has led to hardships. Americans, including the military, veterans, and anyone with medical conditions, are no longer receiving their prescriptions by mail in a timely manner. Those who receive Social Security checks by mail are encountering delays in the receipt of their checks. Corporations cannot distribute invoices and receive payments on time. Small businesses are experiencing delays in the shipping and receiving of their packages, leading to customer complaints.

The USPS is an essential public service, which is enshrined in the Constitution. All Americans are entitled to reliable postal service, and access to timely processing of mail-in ballots for the November election.

Therefore, on Saturday, August 22, at 11 a.m., caring Americans will show up at local post offices across the United States of America for "Save the Post Office Saturday," to save the USPS from being decimated by Trump, and to declare that Postmaster General Louis DeJoy must resign.

Here in Yorktown, we will gather at the main post office at 2020 Maple Hill St., Yorktown Heights, NY 10598 to have our voices heard.
